We are two psychotherapists in California who will one day own a glorious retreat house where people can come to gather from all over the world to share their stories of resilience and hope. There will be quaint sitting areas under big trees, a porch swing with a side table to hold your iced tea, and walking paths with fragrant flowers in the gardens to enliven the senses. Inside there will be peacefully decorated rooms to hold individual counseling sessions and there will be a great room for larger gatherings and retreats. Wonderful smells will be coming from the kitchen as we brew coffee and have nutritious meals to fill our bellies and souls. We will have an extensive art room featuring walls of sand tray figurines to engage our right brain. Oh and last but not least lets not forget Abbey… our rescue therapy dog who will be there to greet all visitors.
We began talking about the concept of bringing our Shadow selves into the Light many years ago. We continue to aim at moving the stigma of mental illness from a label of “good” or “bad” to the reality that comes along with being human… we all have stuff we need to work out.
We accept all that our clients bring to their sessions as the whole, unique, creative beings that they are. In the early 2000s, we joined together to form Shadow to Light Counseling and have offered individual, relationship, group and retreat workshops to hundreds of clients as a process to deepen personal understanding and continued growth.
